NBRP Drosophila Public Seminar

Through the first five year period of National Bio-Resource Project, we are rapidly approaching the achievement of a comprehensive Drosophila resource. How will this resource be utilized? Where will Drosophila research go next? Bringing in lecturers who are expanding active research, we will hold a public symposium on December 18th, 2006 entitled "Drosophila Bio-Resources: Development and Prospects."

Time: 1:30-6:00PM, Monday December 18th, 2006

Place: Sanjo Conference Center, Tokyo University

Genomic Analysis Project: Construction of BAC libraries

DGRC News
1 August 2003

We announced that BAC libraries of 5 sorts of Drosophila: D. simulans, D. melanogaster, D. ananassae, D. sechellia, and D. auraria were being proceeded at RIKEN during the general assembly of Japanese Drosophila Research Conference. We applied to perform end sequencing in order to utilize BAC libraries as useful genetic resources. Regarding this application, we got an answer that end sequencing of 3 kinds will be carried out. Therefore, it is necessary to select 3 kinds of BAC libraries out of 5. The following schedule was set as of 31 July. By 4 August, we will discuss which sorts of libraries will be appropriate targets for sequence, and confirm objects and amount for sequence with RIKEN Genomic Sciences Center, the institution handling sequence. By 8 August, we will discuss material preparation. Hence, It is required to make a decision by the morning on 4 August, which is earlier than the middle of August arranged in the general assembly.

In terms of end sequencing, as the information of D. auraria is not effective for BAC libraries very much and the information of D. simulans, D. ananassae, D. sechellia.

We would be grateful if you could provide us with your opinion regarding this by noon on 4 August.
