On Wednesday, December 6th, two officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) visited our facilities. Kanji Fujiki, Vice Minister of the Research Promotion Bureau, and T. Tanai, Head of the Science Research Aid Division, inspected the Drosophila Genetic Resource Center, the core institute of the National Bio-Resource Project "Drosophila," and the Center for Bio-Resource Field Science, which promotes research on insect bio-resources (silkworms, etc.). They asked about the special characteristics of Drosophila as a genetic resource and the difficulties associated with maintaining the stocks.

A paper describing the gene fertilization research promoted by the Drosophila Genetic Resource Center has been selected as Best Paper at the 78th Congress of the Genetics Society of Japan.
