Drosophila Import Permits

ショウジョウバエのUSDAにおける取扱いの方法について、変更の要請を提出した。
Kevin Cookが起案して、Fly Board Memberのサインをつけて、提出した。

Kevinのメール内容:
Dear FlyBoard members,

There is a glimmer of hope that we might be able to convince the USDA to drop most import permits for Drosophila. The USDA is revamping the regulations that govern the importation of transgenic organisms and the period for public comment ends on Monday, November 24th. I have written a public letter that I hope the FlyBoard will co-sign. It is attached. Please let me know if you would like your name removed from the letter or if you see things that need to be changed.

Anyone interested in the details of the proposed regulations can check out

http://www.regulations.gov/fdmspublic/component/main?main=DocketDetail&d=APHIS-2008-0023

The USDA is obligated by law to respond to all public comments. The FlyBoard made a public comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement that was a prerequisite for the current proposed regulations. I think it made a difference. People at the USDA wrote asking for comments on this proposal. Someone is listening…….

Thanks!
Kevin
