Kyoto Institute of Technology
Under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (the present Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), the KYOTO Stock Center was founded in 1999 and originally named the Drosophila Genetic Resource Center (DGRC) at Kyoto Institute of Technology. On July 1st 2015, the University reorganized the KYOTO Stock Center, together with the Center for Bioresource Field Science and Insect Biomedical Research Center, into a new center now known as the "Advanced Insect Research Center." Within this new Center, the DGRC has been renamed the "Department of Drosophila Genomics and Genetic Resources."
Despite of this reorganization, there is virtually no change in our activity nor in our objectives. Our department serves a dual purpose as ever: first, to collect, maintain, and distribute Drosophila stocks world-wide, and second, to conduct cutting edge research, to understand and discover new principles of biological function and evolution that will lead to a better understanding of animal and human health (Takano-Shimizu & Tomaru Laboratory).
