Since its foundation in 1999, the Drosophila Genetic Resource Center (DGRC) has been collecting, maintaining, inspecting, and distributing a wide variety of strains of D. melanogaster and its close relatives for the worldwide fly community. The DGRC (often called “Kyoto Stock Center”) is now recognized as one of the largest stock centers. In April 2012, we took over the duties of Dr. Yamamoto, who led the DGRC for the past 10 years or so. While the center’s policy is passed on to the current generation of DGRC, approaches to contribute to the community would be more diversified. Besides the ongoing tasks, we wish to provide a new storage service to external users; we maintain a large number of strains for a given time period (e.g., 6 months or 1 year) for the sake of researchers who want to make new strains (for screening, for instance), but have difficulty maintaining all of them in the laboratory. The users would be requested to donate final strains to our center after the completion of study. We are also open to discuss possible uses of DGRC. Last, but not least importantly, we would like to encourage you to donate your important and useful stocks to DGRC for the whole fly community as well as yourself. |
