演題:Aggregation maintains genetic polymorphism in Drosophila melanogaster

要旨:

Models applying the aggregation theory of species coexistence to genotypes predict that the mechanism also maintains genetic polymorphism. For this to
work in nature genotypes must aggregate over patchy resources (fruit) independently of each other. This seems unlikely, however, genotypes might be expected not to aggregate independently simply because they are the same species and can be expected to have the same oviposition requirements. Non-independent aggregation might also be expected if genotypes had different oviposition requirements. We therefore mapped the oviposition patterns of pairs of D. melanogaster genotypes ovipositing on the same sets of resource patches. We then tested whether the patterns were independent of each other or not. All genotype pairs showed completely independent oviposition patterns, therefore meeting the fundemental requirement for the maintenance of genetic polymorph ism under the aggregation theory. High levels of genetic polymorphism are therefore to be expected in Drosophila exploiting patchy resources even in the absence of other mechanisms.
